Reflecting on the week
I am grateful for a good session with my tutor and a lovely *accountability session. Avoidance is one of my peeves and I am 100% prone to it. How does it happen? I watch Youtube videos, check facebook and instagram and make myself ‘busy’.
Why does this happen?
- I am unsure on the steps to a task
- I’m not sure which step is first.
- I’m afraid of getting started.
- I’m excited about getting started
- I’m just basically unsure what to do.
What happens?
I zone out and lose track of time and I can lose a day or two by not taking action.
What doesn’t get done gets pushed to the next day and so I literally put myself under pressure.
The project doesn’t get moved along and present me didn’t take care of business so now future me has double the work.
That is unfair on myself and I get anxiety about the present and then about things yet to do.
Can I do something about it?
- i can become more conscious when I’m doing it.
- I can interrupt it to shift it.
- I can use a tool kit to put some pivot points into things.
What is a toolkit?
- Adhd worksheets.
- A checklist
- WB reminders and checklists or infographic
Diary updates – reflections closer together
What happens when I’m using tools?
- I apply effort regularly
- Progress is made
- Belief in self and trust is built.
Are there signs when I’m avoiding?
- I get restless
- A feeling of slight depression occurs
- I snack a lot
- Middle distance
- Scroll and dopamine mine online.
What alternatives to dopamine mining can I find?
- Walking
- Gardening
- dancing
- Singing
- Baking
- Tidying
- Audiobook
- Declutter 1 area
*accountability session – OCA facilitated a workshop in 4 sessions, that was arranged by Hugh Hadfield, a graduate of OCA, and a coach, to offer students the opportunity to have an accountability group while studying. It was a great place to talk about the challenges encountered and explore tools to assist with moving through it. I would definitely recommend taking part in it if they offer it again.
