UPDATES:
Project 1 – A4 sketchbook and A5 sketchbook are currently being used for ideas and medium tests. At the moment, polychromos pencils are being favoured, with some inks tested. The results with the inks were lack lustre, but the pencils gave good results.
Problems that I’m running into: Time management and a feeling of being scattered. I’ve got a few sketchbooks on the go, and sometimes I forget what is in them. That can result in feeling like I haven’t put a shape on the project. The timeline feels a little too loose here too, and while I’m engaged with sketching at least, it doesn’t feel like I’m making progress.
Project 2 – a complete standstill on this project! I collected the parts for the experiment, gathered videos, did my research and had it planned as a 2 weekends type of project that could then be developed. This might have to be reviewed…I may have to park this project!
Project 3 – A3 charcoal drawings in progress and aiming for 12, 10 completed so far. The photo references that I’ve been taking are all my own. I feel that from the first batch collected over a year, that I gathered enough for 10. I might have to pause this and gather more images. The ones I had don’t feel like a good fit for the collection.
I’ve begun the digital paintings of other photos I’ve taken and they’ve been coming along nicely, but they are definitely more about bright colours and spring and summer…so unwittingly I seem to have created a mood of seasons.
The biggest problem I’ve encountered is that I’ve stalled it due to the lack of appropriate reference photos. The momentum has been lost as a result and so I have to task switch.
The critical essay is being researched via articles online and library sources. There are some great links to a gallery in Tokyo with Hilmas paintings, so I’ll check if I can get articles on that. The critical essay is taking shape.
