Practice and Research
What are the projects?
Following on from Year 2, there are a few projects that were completed for Assignments, that I felt would merit further exploration and experimentation.
For Year 3, further research and visual exploration was planned for these assignments. The 3 projects would cover a multidisciplinary approach. Each would focus on something different and overlaps were expected. Photography, painting, sketching, and sound, mixed with variations on scale for project 3.
Project 1 – a short mixed media comic with a view to a larger project for Year 3.
Project 2 – a photography based short project.
Project 3 – mixed media project focused on scale and with a gallery exhibition aim.
The success of each project would be based on:
- a physical copy of a comic for project 1.
- a series of photos on project 2 with sound and visuals to support it.
- a collection of analog images, sketches, digital prints and sound to represent the project and immerse the viewer in the space, for project 3.
Research involved for Project 1
- A series of books related to the project.
- A number of audiobooks related to the era.
- A series of references for sketching
- A mood board and other reference boards created in Pinterest, to create the world.
- visits to galleries and museums for references.
- comics and graphic novels for insipration.
Research involved for Project 2
- watch youtube videos and take notes on the experiments
- gather references on other experiments done and how it was conducted
- instagram posts on artists past and present, interested in similar projects
Research involved for Project 3
- visiting the space and taking a range of photos
- revisiting the space at different times for a contract of photos and references
- create pencil sketches and digital sketches
- produce larger sketches and charcoal drawings
